The small “We preach Christ” sign caught my attention as I was driving by a few weeks ago; the sign, not the message, is so quaint in a way. Today I figured I might as well get some pictures for the blog and get some idea where this congregation has come from and where it is today. I think I might actually try this church one Sunday, hopefully in the not-so-distant future.

inThis strange little church, which is doubled as a car wash, is on Mack Avenue in Detroit. It is two blocks east of Detroit’s famous Indian Village neighborhood. Who knows how long it’s been closed. I found this to be one of the more unique ” churches” I’ve ever seen.

Architect, Architecture, Judaism, Minoru Yamasaki, synagogue, temple, World Trade Center Twin Towers
This wonderful building, home to one of Detroit’s oldest Jewish congregations, is a world renowned structure. It was designed by world famous architect, Minoru Yamasaki, best known for designing the World Trade Centers Twin Towers.
I’ve driven by this cool synagogue so many times I’ve lost count. I was fortunate enough to attend a wedding there and it is quite a place. Not being Jewish, and not having attended any surely religious functions at the synagogue, I Could not comment on anything with regard to the congregation’s faith or practice.

inWhen I first saw this cool place from all angles, I was surprised that it is the place of worship still in use. It is a tad rough in spots but it’s a cool building.

Canton methodist church, Cherry Hill Village, churches in Canton MI, Methodist, United Methodist Church
I’ve driven by this church a thousand times. I used to hang out in the church’s cemetery during college summer breaks; serene.
Cherry Hill United Methodist Church in Canton, Michigan is one of the anchor historical sites to which the budding Cherry Hill Village is tied (loosely speaking.)
Because this is fairly close to home, I’ll eventually get around to visiting it. The pics below were in late summer or early fall. I have also attached some nature shots from that area.

inThis pick-up truck was in the parking lot where I park for work in downtown Detroit. It’s covered with images from the book of Revelation. It’s not my cup of tea but the images are kinda cool.

Archdiocese of Saginaw, Catholic churches, churches in mid-Michigan, Linwood MI, pixlr-o-matic, St. Anne Parish, St. Anne Parish Linwood MI
This church was next to the hall at which my brother-in-law had his wedding reception. Linwood is a pretty small mid-Michigan town; a quaint place. The parish seems to be a fairly active one, based on the website. Outside of that, there’s little about its history that I have found.

St. Anne, as a building, seemed worthy of sharing here, but I would not claim it to be among the more striking or moving places of worship I have found. The tower is may favorite feature. I modified the photos a bit with pixlr-o-matic, which is always kind of fun when there is nothing particularly striking about the originals.

inI found this little abandoned country church on M-43, between Hastings and Woodland, Michigan. There was nothing by which I could identify the place, but it made for some nice shots.
